How Old Fishing Nets are Transformed into Colorful and Beautiful Swimwear for the Whole Family
I’ve always wanted to start my own fashion label, but let’s be honest, there are already so many out there. Then I faced the problem of not being able to find colorful bikinis with cool prints – most of them are either totally boring or look outdated. So, I thought to myself: Why not just start my own swimwear label?
Around that time, I was snorkeling with my little sister on the stunning Greek island of Zakynthos. While we were out in the water, we came across a huge, old fishing net, tangled with trash and plastic bottles. Together with some friends, we pulled it out and handed it over to the authorities. These ghost nets, which drift endlessly in the sea, endangering countless marine creatures and polluting our oceans, really made me think. Did you know that over 100 million tons of plastic waste float in our oceans, and about 10% of that waste comes from these fishing nets?
During my research, I came across the company ECONYL – they’ve developed a really cool process where they turn old fishing nets and other waste into new nylon yarn. This yarn is then woven into fresh, new fabrics. For me, it was immediately clear: These fabrics have to be used for my bikinis, swimsuits, and swim shorts!

So, I started designing the first prints, got them printed on the fabrics, and then hit the beaches I was visiting, approaching cool people – surfers, families, sandcastle builders, boat owners, and sunbathers – asking if they would model for me.
Oceanfighter stands for the love of the ocean, a sense of adventure, and our commitment to consciously protecting this blue wonder.
I’ve organized many beach clean-ups, but I quickly realized that working together with a large team of like-minded people allows you to achieve so much more.
That’s why I visited the team from "Under The Wave" and "The Living Ocean." I got to know their projects and met the many amazing people who give their best every day to protect our beaches and oceans.

With every piece of our swimwear sold, we donate €5 to "The Living Ocean" to help protect our seas, the underwater world, and its animals. I’m super happy about this partnership and proud to say that these projects really exist and are being implemented. It was important to me to support a smaller organization because, from experience, I know that not all NGOs use their donations where they’re truly needed.
