Nature Meets Brush: The Idea Behind Our Sustainable Watercolor Palettes in Tree Trunk Slices

Writer's picture: Maren HerrmannMaren Herrmann

The art of watercolor, which has fascinated artists for centuries, allows us to mix colors and let them flow across the paper, creating images that capture both the essence of nature and our imagination. In the heart of Munich, this time-honored art form has been reimagined with a greener, more sustainable vision. Our handcrafted watercolors, presented in reclaimed wooden slices, are not only a testament to craftsmanship but also to our commitment to acting in harmony with the planet. They are an invitation to envision a color palette that delights both the eyes and the heart.

The Connection Between Art and Environmental Awareness

At a time when environmental awareness is increasingly coming to the forefront, we have recognized that true beauty emerges when art and sustainability unite. Our handcrafted watercolors, made in Munich, are a vibrant expression of this symbiosis. We produce these colors in small batches to ensure both quality and a deep commitment to the environment.

One feature we are particularly proud of is the innovative packaging of our paints. Instead of relying on conventional methods, we embed our paints in reclaimed wooden slices. This not only serves as a statement of sustainability but also as our contribution to reducing waste in sawmills and woodworking shops.

The creative potential our paints offer is limitless. With a wide spectrum of vibrant and intense tones, we enable artists to create works of unique depth and brilliance. But behind this creative freedom is our message of sustainability: We firmly believe that true art should not only please the eye but also respect the environment.

Our vision of eco-friendly art goes beyond mere paint production. Our palettes, which differ from traditional plastic and metal containers, are both recyclable and refillable. In doing so, we demonstrate that sustainability and economy can go hand in hand. Every brushstroke made with our paints is a sign of our support for a greener art scene. For us, creativity and environmental protection harmoniously blend together.

Finally, our sustainable paint tablets, known for both their brilliance and eco-friendly qualities, offer a fresh perspective on art materials. It is our goal to always remind people that true beauty arises when art and environmental awareness go hand in hand.

The Source of Inspiration: Nature

Nature has always been an endless source of inspiration for artists, designers, and craftsmen. For us, it is not only a place of beauty and wonder but also a symbol of sustainability and harmony. Our handcrafted watercolors, made in Munich, are a vibrant expression of this inspiration we draw from nature.

The vibrant and intense tones of our palette reflect the diversity and brilliance of the natural world. Each shade is reminiscent of the vivid colors of a sunset, the gentle hue of a clear lake, or the varied greens of a dense forest. But it is not only nature’s aesthetic beauty that inspires us. It is also its inherent principles of renewal, cycles, and balance.

We embed our paints in reclaimed wooden slices—a deliberate choice that deepens the connection between art and nature. This approach not only reduces waste but also serves as a reminder that everything we use and consume comes from nature and should eventually return to it.

Our commitment to preserving the environment and our love for art are intertwined through nature. In nature, we see the need to think sustainably, use resources efficiently, and maintain beauty at the same time. This is the philosophy behind our watercolors: the union of art and environmental awareness, driven by the boundless inspiration that nature offers. It is our way of expressing gratitude to the Earth while providing artists with the tools to bring their creative visions to life.

Our Philosophy of Sustainability

Sustainability is more than just a buzzword for us; it is the heart of our mission and shapes every aspect of our work. In a world that is changing ever faster, and where the impact of human actions on the environment is becoming increasingly clear, we are committed to acting with integrity and responsibility.

Our handcrafted watercolors, created with great care, embody this commitment. By selecting eco-friendly materials and producing in small batches, we ensure that every step of the process reflects our values of sustainability. For us, it’s not just about creating environmentally friendly products, but also about paving a new path in the art scene—one that is both high-quality and environmentally conscious.

Embedding our paints in reclaimed wooden slices is just one example of how we strive to reduce waste and use resources efficiently. But our efforts go beyond the product itself. By educating and raising awareness within the community, we aim to foster an understanding of the benefits of sustainable art.

Our sustainable practices also reflect our deep appreciation and respect for nature. We recognize that the Earth has limited resources, and we aim to minimize our ecological footprint as much as possible. This also means constantly seeking ways to improve our processes and find more innovative, greener solutions.

In summary, our philosophy of sustainability is about harmoniously combining art and environmental awareness. It’s our way of equipping today’s artists with the tools to shape the world of tomorrow while preserving the Earth and its beauty for future generations.

Handcrafted Masterpieces: The Production Process

Our color palettes represent a special story of craftsmanship, tradition, and family unity, deeply rooted in Germany. Each palette is not just a tool for artists, but also the result of loving handcrafting and years of experience.

The process begins in the skilled hands of the father of our founder, Isabel. In a quiet corner of their family estate, he carefully saws the tree trunk slices. Each slice is unique, bearing the marks of years and telling its own story through its grain and texture.

Once the slices are ready, Isabel takes over. In her cozy workshop, which serves both as a creative space and a retreat, she focuses on the finishing touches. With a trained eye and steady hand, she sands each slice to perfection, ensuring the natural beauty of the wood is preserved.

The next step requires precision: Isabel carefully drills holes into the tree slices, which will later hold the vibrant watercolor paints. Each hole is drilled with care, ensuring the colors will sit securely and firmly.

A special feature of our palettes is the Oceanfighter brand seal. It is not only a mark of quality and craftsmanship but also a stamp of Oceanfighter’s commitment and vision. Once this seal is carefully burned into the wood, the final but no less important step follows: inserting the paints.

Isabel thoughtfully selects each color and then glues them into the prepared holes. With this final act of dedication and passion, another masterpiece is complete—a color palette that impresses not only with its unparalleled quality but also with the story it tells.

The Magic of Our Color Palette

The joy of painting should be simple, safe, and sustainable. That's exactly what we had in mind with our paint tablets. These little creative wonders not only offer an easy and eco-friendly way to refill empty watercolor palettes, but they are also a symbol of sustainable art. Used up all the paint? No problem. Our paint tablets can be easily repurchased and placed into the palette, helping to reduce waste and conserve resources.

Each of our paint tablets is a feast for the eyes, a kaleidoscope of vibrant tones that awaken the artist in all of us. The special thing about them is their versatility: you can mix the tablets as you like to create entirely unique shades and nuances.

But our commitment goes beyond art itself. In production, we use natural, toxin-free raw materials to ensure that you're holding a product of the highest quality. This is especially important when it comes to our youngest artists. Specifically designed for schools, kindergartens, and private use, our watercolors ensure that the creative experience remains safe at all times. Accidental contact with the mouth? No need to worry. Our paints are designed to be harmless to both health and the environment.

Ultimately, behind our paint tablets is not just a passion for art, but also a responsibility to our environment and our customers. With every brushstroke made using our paints, you become part of a movement that prioritizes quality, safety, and sustainability.

How to Refill the Paint Palettes:

When the paint tablet hole is empty, you can simply refill it. Make sure that no remnants of the old paint remain in the hole.

If there is still some paint left in the hole and you want to replace it, you can use a flat screwdriver to carefully scrape out the remaining paint.

Take a new paint tablet and apply a drop of craft glue, wood glue, or super glue to one side of the tablet.

Then, press the paint tablet firmly into the recess and let it dry for a few minutes.

Alternatively, you can use a glue stick. Rub the glue stick generously over one side of the paint tablet and then press it into the recess.
